Integration Support in Sweden

Having been brought up by Indian Parents in Sweden, I internalized many of the hurdles that are faced when growing up in a society that is so different from one's own home. It could be small things such as the food that was served at Swedish friends' homes, following Swedish folk mores or norms, common gestures and mannerisms or simply when ordering something at a restaurant. India and Sweden vary tremendously in all ways and forms, be it the culture, language, mannerisms, access to justice, healthcare, or education.

Some simple steps taken towards integrating into the Swedish society can be made by taking simple steps such as learning Swedish socio-cultural principles which are also based on rules or even laws.

For example, most Swedes believe in the overt or unspoken socio-cultural rule, "Jantelagen", or the Law of Jante, which is a cultural concept that promotes modesty, egalitarianism and discourages individual achievement or standing out from the crowd. It emphasizes equality, conformity, humility, collective focus, and avoids criticism, reflecting a mindset that values humility and collective well-being over individual accomplishments.

Who can benefit from the integration support program?

Take the First Step Towards Your Success: This opportunity is dedicated to promoting integration, fostering cultural exchange, and providing essential support for the Indian community. I believe that together, we can create a strong, inclusive, and harmonious multicultural society. Welcome to your new home in Sweden!
